US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized his country’s commitment to NATO, expects European allies to commit defense expenditures to 5 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).
Rubio made statements to the press at the entrance of the two -day NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting in Brussels.
Expressing his satisfaction with attending the NATO meeting for the first time, Rubio said, “The United States is more active than ever before. In the global media and some local media in the United States, some of the hysteria and exaggeration I have seen in NATO is unjustified. The US President (Donald) Trump said that NATO supports NATO.” he said.
Rubio, emphasizing that the United States wants NATO to be stronger, “We want NATO to be more vivid. The only way NATO is stronger and more vivid is that our partners, who make up this important alliance, have more ability of nation -states.” he said.
Stating that NATO is a community of developed economies and rich countries, Rubio said, “I assure you that we have internal needs, but we have given priority to the defense because of the role we play in the world. We want our partners to do the same.” He said.

“I understand that there are domestic policies that do not want to give up and make more investment in national security after establishing wide social security networks for decades.
