I hate to lose. Particularly when I made mistakes that helped it happen. I’m often asked what plays I remember most vividly in my 12-year career. The plays that come to mind, the plays I still dream about, are the plays I didn’t make. Realizing and correcting those mistakes are what allowed me to get better. Honesty and forgiveness in self-evaluation is how football teams get better. It’s awesome to have a 12-game winning streak but nothing will get your attention more fully than a loss.
The Broncos lost decisively to the Jaguars on Sunday and have a quick turnaround to play their old nemesis the Chiefs on Thursday night. Yes, Patrick Mahomes is out, and the Chiefs are out of the playoff picture. Players who are out of the playoffs play for pride, for their teammates, and for next year’s roster spot. If the Broncos win their next two games, they win the AFC West and get a bye in the first week of the playoffs. This game is important to Denver. A long season is winding down. Denver 20 Kansas City 13. Merry Christmas and Go Broncos!
